Annual Mini Masterpieces Art Show at Rhythmix Cultural Works
Every year, my friends and I get to put on our own group show at a really neat arts and performance space, Rhythmix Cultural Works. We each fill a section of the walls of the gallery and sell our pieces to the public. We call it Mini Masterpieces with the idea that everything in the show is affordable, manageable in size, and simple for gift-giving.
This year, I was inspired by Pyrex and Corningware from the 1960s and 1970s. Many people grew up with these recognizable dishes in simple patterns. I also am inspired by oil cloth tablecloths. The colors and patterns are like eye candy to me. So, I spent an extended weekend in my dining room painting away on some canvases that have been in storage. I love working with acrylics not only because they dry quickly, but I can blend and outline in fun ways. Oh, did you notice the tuna noodle casserole?

Also in the theme of the 1960s and 1970s are these paintings of dolls, accented with glitter. I've been referring to them as The Triplets. They're heavily inspired by those Bradley southern belle dolls with ringlets, lace hats, giant eyes, and large skirts. I had one when I was growing up and was fascinated by all the colors and shapes in her eyes.
